Mortgage Protection Insurance in Flower Mound, Built Around What You Owe
This is a life policy whose amount and length follow your mortgage balance and the years left on it. If you die during the term, the person you name receives the funds and chooses how to use them. We start with your loan papers, then compare options in writing.
What Mortgage Protection Is, and When It Fits
At its core, mortgage protection insurance is a life policy, usually term life, with a coverage amount and length set to your mortgage. The goal is simple. If the person whose income carries the payment dies, the family has the money to pay off the loan or keep making payments without selling.
It is not the same as the mortgage insurance your lender may require. That coverage, PMI, protects the lender if you stop paying. Ours names your spouse, partner or children as beneficiary, and they decide what to do with the funds.
It tends to fit best for clients who recently closed or refinanced, have one income doing most of the work, or simply want the loan handled before anything else. If you want broader coverage for income replacement or college, we may suggest pairing it with a larger term life policy instead.
What We Do on Every Mortgage Protection Case
A read of your actual loan
We start with your closing statement or latest mortgage statement: balance, rate, remaining term and monthly payment. We note each figure in writing and send it back to you so you can confirm we read it correctly.
Level or decreasing coverage, compared
Decreasing term shrinks roughly in step with your loan balance and usually costs less. Level term stays the same, which leaves extra for the family as the loan pays down. We lay both out together so the trade-off is plain.
Riders, priced one at a time
Depending on the carrier, you may be able to add an accelerated benefit for a terminal or chronic illness, a disability rider that helps with payments, or a return-of-premium option if you outlive the term. We explain each one and its cost, and the choice stays yours.
A record of each step
You get a snapshot at every stage: the figures we worked from, the quotes we compared, the application as submitted and the final policy pages. Nothing happens on your file that you cannot see.
Beneficiary setup checked with you
We confirm primary and contingent beneficiaries line by line. If minors are involved, we talk through how that is usually handled so the money reaches the right people.

When Mortgage Protection Deserves a Look
- A new loan is on the books
- Closing or refinancing resets both the balance and the years remaining. A policy chosen for the earlier loan may now be too small or end too soon.
- One paycheck covers the payment
- If the mortgage depends mostly on one income, losing that income could force a sale. This is the situation the coverage exists for.
- Your mailbox is full of offers
- Closing records are public, and solicitations arrive within weeks. Many are simplified-issue policies priced higher than a fully underwritten one. We can compare any offer you received against other options.
- Your workplace policy is your only coverage
- Coverage through an employer is often modest, sometimes one or two times salary, and it typically stops when the job does. Set that figure next to your loan balance and the gap is usually clear.
- You have moved up to a larger loan
- Clients moving within Flower Mound or to nearby towns like Highland Village or Lantana often carry a bigger balance than before. Your coverage should follow.
How a Mortgage Protection Case Runs
- 1
A first call about the loan
We ask about your balance, term, payment, who depends on the income and any coverage you already hold. It usually takes one conversation.
- 2
Quotes laid side by side
We price level and decreasing options from more than one carrier, with and without the riders you are curious about. You receive the comparison in writing before deciding anything.
- 3
Application and underwriting
Depending on the carrier and amount, underwriting may be a phone interview only or include a brief paramedical exam at your office or another spot you choose. We tell you which applies before you start.
- 4
Policy delivery and review
When the policy is approved, we go through the pages with you, confirm the beneficiaries and the coverage amount, and note the date the term ends.
What Shapes the Premium
The carrier sets the premium from your health profile and the way the coverage is shaped. Until we have your loan figures and a few health answers, any number would be a guess. What we can do from the first call is show you which choices push it up or down.
- Age and health
- Younger, healthier applicants pay less. Tobacco use is one of the largest single factors.
- Loan balance and remaining term
- A larger balance or a longer term means more coverage for longer, which raises the premium.
- Level versus decreasing
- A decreasing policy tracks the falling loan balance, so the carrier owes less as the years pass and the premium is usually lower. A level policy holds its full amount for the whole term. It is priced higher, and in return your family keeps the extra once the loan is mostly paid.
- Underwriting type
- Simplified-issue policies skip the exam but often cost more. Fully underwritten policies take longer and can price lower for healthy clients.
- Riders
- Disability, return-of-premium and living-benefit riders each add cost. We show each one priced separately.
Mortgage Protection Questions We Hear Often
- Does the money go to my lender?
- No. The person you name on the policy is paid directly. They might clear the mortgage in full, keep up the monthly payments, or set some aside for other bills. Lender-required coverage offers none of that choice.
- Is this the same as PMI?
- It is not. PMI protects the lender if you default and is often required with a smaller down payment. Mortgage protection is life coverage that protects your family, and buying one has no effect on the other.
- What happens if I refinance or sell?
- Your policy is not tied to the loan itself, so it stays in force as long as you pay premiums. If your new balance or term differs a lot, call us and we will look at whether the coverage still fits.
- Can I just buy regular term life instead?
- Often, yes. Many clients get a level term policy sized to the mortgage plus a cushion, which covers the loan and more. We will show you both so you can see the price difference.
- Will the carrier want a physical exam?
- That depends on the amount and the carrier. Smaller policies are often approved from a phone interview and a records check. Larger amounts may call for a short paramedical visit, which can take place at your office. We tell you which route your quote follows before you apply.
