Retirement Income Planning in Flower Mound, Documented Step by Step
When the paychecks stop, you still need money arriving each month. We look at your savings, pensions, Social Security and existing policies, then build an income plan you can read line by line, with a record of what we found and what we set up.
What retirement income planning means here
Most people reach retirement with savings in several places and no clear picture of how they turn into a monthly income. Our work is to connect those pieces. We use insurance tools such as annuities and cash value life insurance where they fit, and we coordinate them with the Social Security and pension income you already expect.
You leave each conversation with paperwork, not just a feeling. We keep copies of the statements we reviewed, note what we found in each one and show you exactly which changes we suggest and why. If something you own already works well, we say so and leave it alone.
This is often the right call in the five to ten years before you stop working, or soon after, when decisions about timing still have room to matter.
What the planning covers
An inventory of what you own
We list every account, policy and pension you bring to the table. Each one gets a short written note: its value, its fees and any surrender charges or restrictions.
An income map by year
We lay out which source pays you in each stage of retirement. You see the gaps plainly, such as the years between leaving work and claiming Social Security.
Annuity options, explained
If guaranteed lifetime income makes sense for part of your savings, we compare fixed and fixed indexed annuities side by side. We show the payout terms, the surrender schedule and what happens to any remaining value for your beneficiary.
What your current life coverage can do
A whole life or universal life policy bought years back may have built up cash value worth drawing on for income. We run the numbers on yours and show what surrendering it or borrowing against it would take away from your family.
A written summary at each step
After every meeting you get a record of what we reviewed and what we decided together. Nothing is set up that is not on paper first.

Signs it is time to plan your retirement income
- Your savings sit in several places
- An old 401(k), an IRA, a brokerage account and a policy or two. Without a plan, it is hard to know which to draw from first.
- You are unsure when to claim Social Security
- Claiming early or late changes your income for life. That choice should be made alongside your other sources, not on its own.
- A pension decision is coming
- Lump sum or monthly payments, single life or joint with survivor. These elections are usually permanent, so they deserve a careful look.
- You worry about outliving your money
- If longevity runs in your family, part of your savings may need to become income that lasts as long as you do.
- An old policy no longer fits
- Coverage bought for young children or a mortgage may now be worth reviewing for cash value or a different role.
Our process, from first call to a finished file
- 1
A first conversation by phone
We start with a few simple questions: the age you would like to retire, a rough monthly budget and where your savings are held today. There is no paperwork and nothing to sign at this stage.
- 2
Review of your statements
We meet at a time and place that suits you and go through each statement together. We record what we find in each one so you have your own copy.
- 3
A written income plan
We present a year-by-year map of your income with any recommended products clearly marked. Every fee, surrender period and assumption is spelled out.
- 4
Setting up what you choose
If you decide to go ahead, we handle the applications and transfers and document each one as it is completed. You see the confirmation for every step.
- 5
Check-ins as life changes
Retirement plans shift with health, markets and family. We revisit the plan with you and update the written record.
What moves the price of your plan
Most of what you pay comes from the products you decide to use, if you use any, rather than from our conversations. Each product carries its own built-in fees and charges. You see those figures in writing before you agree to anything.
- The products you choose
- Fixed annuities, indexed annuities and life policies each carry different charges. Some have none beyond the product terms, others include rider fees.
- Optional income riders
- Lifetime income or long-term care riders add a yearly cost. We show whether the benefit is worth it for your situation.
- Surrender charges on what you own
- Moving money out of an existing annuity or policy can trigger penalties. We note these in your summary so a change never costs more than it gains.
- Your age and timing
- Starting income at 62 versus 70 changes annuity payout rates and the price of any added life coverage.
Questions about retirement income planning
- Will you push me into buying an annuity or a new policy?
- Not at all. Your current accounts and coverage are the starting point for the income map. When they already do the job, we say so plainly and record that conclusion in your written summary.
- How does an annuity fit with Social Security?
- Social Security is a base income for life. An annuity can fill the gap between that base and what you spend each month, or cover the years before you claim. We show both side by side so you can see the combined total.
- Is there value in a whole life policy I bought decades ago?
- In many cases, yes. Whole life policies build cash value over time, and you can usually withdraw some of it or take a loan against it. We work out what yours holds and show how tapping it would shrink the amount your beneficiary receives.
- Do you give tax advice?
- We are not tax preparers. We point out where a decision may have tax effects and encourage you to confirm details with your CPA. Texas has no state income tax, which simplifies part of the picture but not federal rules.
- What will I have when we are done?
- A written plan, copies of the statements we reviewed with our notes, and confirmation of each product set up. You can share the whole file with your spouse or another advisor.
